Claude T. Stanfield Moore (British 1853-1901) Off Whitby Harbor. Oil on canvas signed and dated 76 at the lower left corner apprx. 20" x 30" framed in a wide gilt frame overall apprx. 26-1/2" x 36". Depicting a shipwreck and rescue just off the coast in roiling waters. The boat to the right has "W.H." on its bow indicating the home port of Whitby Yorkshire UK. Great attention to the details of the buildings on the coast; Whitby Abbey at the upper left to the port with two lighthouses at the right.
