A PROVINCIAL NEOCLASSICAL PARCEL
A PROVINCIAL NEOCLASSICAL PARCEL GILT AND PAINTED WOOD ...A PROVINCIAL NEOCLASSICAL PARCEL GILT AND PAINTED WOOD MANTLE CLOCK, WORKS BY VINCENTI & CIE, MID 19TH CENTURY, the hinged gilt bronze beaded and mille rayons detailed bezel with convex glass cover, opening to a white enameled dial with black Arabic numerals and quarter hour numbers, enclosing reticulated gilt metal hour/minute hands over twin key escapements, reversing to a hinged glass door opening to reveal a brass notched wheel and hammer strike bell concealing a hook suspended pendulum ending in a crisply cast ormolu basket spilling over with tightly packed leafy blooms, before a cover plate numbered 1401 and stamped circular pastille "MEDAILLE D'ARGENT / Vincenti & Cie / 1855," within a barrel form case suspending laurel leaf swags and surmounted by a flower filled urn, raised on a flaring rectangular arched base with reeded details flanked by two handled blossoming spray filled vases on shaped rectangular pedestals and a beaded serpentine rectangular plinth on compressed bun feet. Height: 18 1/4" Width: 15 3/4" Depth: 4 1/8" Note: Vincenti & Cie - Jean (Giovanni) Vincenti was from Corsica but by 1823 had opened Vincenti & Cie manufacturing watches in Montbéliard. Unfortunately by 1828 financial issues forced him to file for bankruptcy but this downturn was short lived. His manager Albert Roux garnered shares in the company and in less than one year was able to reopen the doors. This allowed Vincenti to seek advice on important production methods which combined with Roux's management led to the winning of a silver medal in 1834. Sadly, Vincenti passed in 1833 but the company under Roux's ownership went on to win more awards until finally closing its' doors in 1923.
