1910 APPALACHIAN EXPO. STILL LIFE BY MAYME FREEMANTennessee still life oil on canvas titled, "The Most Prized and The Most Despised" by Mayme A. Freeman (Knoxville, TN, b. 1884). This work was awarded the silver medal in the Appalachian Exposition of 1910 held in Knoxville, Tennessee. The still life depicts an open bible atop other books, a candlestick, and a mouse nibbling on money. Signed and dated "Mayme A. Freeman 1910" lower middle right in image. Tag numbered "103" lower left. Housed in a dark wooden frame with mounted wooden plaque listing title and artist. This work is listed and illustrated in the scarce "Catalogue Fine Arts Section Appalachian Exposition" which accompanies this lot. Sight - 17 1/4" H x 25 1/4" W. Framed - 23 3/4" H x 31 1/2" W. Note: Mayme A. Freeman was listed in a Knoxville, TN 1904 U. S. City Directory under Artists. She was the niece of the famous Knoxville, TN artist Enoch Lloyd Branson (Tennessee, 1853-1925). Her mother was Susan E. Freeman (Branson) daughter of Enoch Branson, sister of Enoch Lloyd Branson. Provenance: Descendant of Branson family. LARGE 1910 TN APPALACHIAN EXPO. STILL LIFE BY MAYME FRE...Monumentally large East Tennessee still life oil on canvas titled, "1815" by Mayme A. Freeman (Knoxville, TN, b. 1884). This work was exhibited in the Appalachian Exposition of 1910 held in Knoxville, Tennessee and retains the exhibition number in the lower left corner, "278". The still life depicts a cabin mantel with a full stock, flintlock long rifle, powder horn, and leather pouch. A large stoneware jug and an almanac, Webster_s letter book, are also displayed upon the mantel. A key, iron skimmer, and dried peppers hang on the wall below the rifle. Housed in a dark wooden frame with mounted wooden plaque listing title and artist. This work is listed in the "Catalogue Fine Arts Section Appalachian Exposition", p. 69. Sight - 39 5/8" H x 71 3/4" W. Framed - 48 3/4" H x 80 3/4" W. Biography: Mayme A. Freeman was listed in a Knoxville, TN 1904 U. S. City Directory under Artists. She was the niece of the famous Knoxville, TN artist Enoch Lloyd Branson (Tennessee, 1853-1925). Her mother was Susan E. Freeman (Branson) daughter of Enoch Branson, sister of Enoch Lloyd Branson. Mounted to an acrylic base with green felt. Marked "SEKI" with character marks on lower left corner of reverse side. Signed with Japanese inscription and sealform to wooden plaque affixed on base. Engraved plate en verso of base "To Dr. R.W. Auten from his friends at Toagosei, Sanyo, Organo, Jacryl, and Tooil, -Silver". Housed in a wood box with glass panes. Sculpture: 14 3/4" H x 4 3/4" W x 5" D. With box and base: 21" H x 10 1/4" W x 11" D. Weight of silver pagoda - 63.185 troy ounces. Mid-20th Century.

Overall excellent condition with very light wear to box.

Each rectangular form ingot with images of drawings by Rockwell, obverse, title and series name, reverse. "The Franklin Mint" stamped to top edge of ingot, "1500 GRAINS", Sterling, copyright symbol, hallmarks, and number stamped to lower edge of ingot. All housed in a wooden frame with a fitted orange interior and a central wooden plaque with gilt lettering reading "Norman Rockwell's/Fondest Memories/First Edition Proof Set/Solid Sterling Silver", within a brown faux leather case with additional gilt lettering to cover. Ingots: 2 1/2" H x 2" W. 31.870 total troy ounces. Case: 12 1/2" H x 17" W x 1 3/4" D.
