EXCEPTIONAL WHIRLIGIG, ARTHUR SAUVé, MAXVILLE, ON.An exceptional "man on a bicycle" whirligig by Arthur Sauvé, Maxville, Ontario, Intricately made with articulated joints allowing the figure to pedal as the wind turns the multi-bladed wooden propeller. Sauvé made a few such whirligigs (one in the Canadian Museum of History) and this is one of the best examples with excellent detail and original varnished surface. Third quarter, 20th century., H: 37"; W/L: 19"; D/P: 23". FRANCAIS: Exceptionnel virevent "homme sur un vélo" par Arthur Sauvé, Maxville, Ont., fabrication complexe des articulations permettant à la figure de pédaler lorsque le vent fait tourner les pales en bois. Sauvé a fait quelques virevent de ce type (un au Musée canadien de l'histoire) celui-ci est l'un des meilleurs exemples, excellents détails, surface vernie d'origine. Troisième quart du 20e siècle.

COMICAL FOLK ART ELECTRIC OPERATED WHIRLIGIGca. 1920-1930s; unattributed whimsical worked whirligig with three carved men in black hats depicted pumping handle that would turn single central wooden propeller and upper shaft with four wooden propellers, the piece powered by salvaged Hamilton Beach motor with propeller that would propel drive shaft wheel, a mounted salvaged Tiffany "Neve Wind" clock is present on back of frame and is driven by band from upper shaft; each carving is loosely mounted to stationary pin shaft and wire arm mounted to pump type drive shaft, each individually carved and have push pin eyes (one with pipe in mouth), each with radiator gray painted facial features, blue body and black hats, 20"x 15 1/2"x 25 3/4"; Condition: crafted in salvaged wood fruit crate, electric motor not tested (needs new plug), no drive bands to operate
