WILLIAM ALLEN WALL (1801-1885, NEW BEDFORD) OILpainting on canvas depicting Buttonwood Park and a forest pool. Signed lower left on a rock. Sight size 20" x 30 1/2", overall with frame 23 1/2" x 34". Carved wooden frame, later 1920s. The painting shows one small repair to the sky and has 3 very slight punctures that do not go through the canvas. Otherwise good, as-found condition. Provenance: from a Fairhaven family.

HARVEY JOINER OIL LANDSCAPE, POOL IN THE WOODSHarvey Joiner (Kentucky/Indiana,1852-1932) oil on board landscape depicting sunlight streaming through a grove of beech trees, reflected in a pond or pool of water visible at the edge of the foreground. Signed "Harvey Joiner" lower right and titled Pool in the Woods, Mid-Autumn Beechwoods on remnants of original paper label en verso. Original burnished molded frame with gilted wood mat and nameplate. 13-1/2" x 5-1/2" sight, 21" x 13" framed. Biography (courtesy Who Was Who In American Art): A painter, Harvey Joiner did portraits including the first five governors of Indiana and also worked in St. Louis where it is thought he studied with David Hoffman. At age 16, he began sketching scenes of African-Americans on the Mississippi River Boats, and by 1880, he had established a studio in Louisville, Kentucky and specialized in scenes of Kentucky beech woods. He also painted allegorical subjects.
Condition:
Painting in excellent condition. Frame has some small abrasions and surface losses to protruding edges.
