In recognition of his support, especially for children orphaned by the war, Clifton was made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor by the French government.
Anthonij Anton Rudolf Mauve (Dutch, 1838-1888)
Anthonij Anton Rudolf Mauve was a Dutch realist painter who was a leading member of the Hague School. A master colorist, he was a very significant early influence on his cousin-in-law Vincent van Gogh. His best-known paintings depict peasants working in the fields. His paintings of flocks of sheep were especially popular with American patrons, so popular that a price differential developed between scenes of “sheep coming” and “sheep going”.

A Patriotic Porcelain Shaving Mug
A Patriotic Porcelain Shaving Mug Depicting the U.S.S. Mississippi
Early 20th Century
bearing the name M. Fogelson and U.S.S. Mississippi in gilt lettering, and depicting the lead naval battleship in the Mississippi class between two American flags.underside marked Bavaria and signed C.P. Haim.Height 3 3/4 inches.
The Mississippi was built by the United States Navy between 1904 and 1908. She served with the Atlantic Fleet from 1909 to 1912, when she was placed on reserve. In 1914, the Mississippi was reactivated as an aviation support ship during the occupation of Veracruz, Mexico. She was purchased shortly thereafter by Greece in July 1914 and renamed Kilkis, becoming the flagship of the Greek fleet amidst the country's naval arms race with the Ottoman Empire.
U.S. Army Transfer Service Documents recording the arrivals and departures of enlisted men between 1910 and 1939 indicate that M. Fogelson may refer to Michel Fogelson (1892-1963), or possibly his brother Mair Fogelson, both Russian or Polish immigrants who came to the United States in the early twentieth century and served in the Navy during World War I. According to Military Naturalization Petitions, Fogelson took the Oath of Allegiance on June 28, 1918, in Washington, DC, and was aboard the President Grant with Co. L, 50th Infantry by 1919. Military records connect him to the Grant, the Princess Matoika, and the Cantigny, but unfortunately, any connections to the Mississippi remain unfounded.

His long-term connection with Harper's Bazaar has produced some of the most recognizable and exquisite Art Deco illustrations of the 20th century. But, from the start of his career in 1915 until his death in 1990, Erte produced paintings, prints, sculpture, stage sets, and costumes, and even a set of champagne flutes. He is often regarded as having two careers; one pre-World War II, and a second from the 1960s till his passing. Erte Art Deco prints are credited for a refreshed interest in the Art Deco movement in the artist's later years. Erte prints offer style and affordability that, whether muted or bright, convey a delicious sense of luxury. Erte artwork for sale or at auction usually finds a home very quickly. H x 37.5? W x 7.5? D. Note: The schooner yacht Atlantic was built for Wilson Marshall, designed by William Gardner of Gardner and Cox in 1903. She was captained by Charlie Barr, a two-time Americas Cup winner, who drove Atlantic through a violent gale and crossing the Atlantic in 12 days, 4 hours. She was transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard for World War II, and was later used for sail training at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Eventually she was broken up, and attempts to salvage her for restoration failed. She ended her career on the banks of the Delaware River.
