Note: Attributed to artist V. Hattsen on a plaque on the frame. Index Peak is a dramatic mountain peak in the Absaroka Range in Wyoming. It is visible from the Northeast Entrance Station to Yellowstone National Park. The plaque on this frame indicates that the view is of both Index and Signal Mountains, however, Signal Mountain is an isolated summit in Grand Teton National Park which is over thirty miles from Yellowstone.

C. 1894- YELLOWSTONE PARK UNDERWOOD STERIOVIEW SETPresented in this lot is a Rare, Original "Yellowstone National Park Stereoview Set" by Underwood & Underwood, circa 1894-1904. Box is titled, "Yellowstone National Park", these 30 stereoscopic silver gel photographs are mounted on stiff 3-1/2" x 7" gray cards in brown slipcase. The photos take the viewer on a trip by rail and horse-drawn carriage through the park beginning at the north entrance in Gardiner, Montana. Each card has a short caption description on the face. Includes shots of the park's iconic wildlife (grizzly bear and bison) and places (Mammoth Terraces, Norris Geyser Basin, Old Faithful and the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone). Highlights include photos of tourists enjoying the thermal features in a manner forbidden today, including one man with a small trout on the end of his line turning from Yellowstone Lake to a small geyser, where he apparently intends to cook the fish. Cards have a short description on the verso, with more details on the recto, and captions translated into French, German, Spanish, Swedish and Cyrillic. The cards are in amazingly good condition, no marring noted. The brown cloth bound gold gilt slip case has slight scuffing, measures 2.25"W x 7.5"L x 4"H

The photograph shows a terrace structure with wooded area in the background and pools of water built up in the sections of the terrace. The photograph is titled as follows: Angel Terrace - Yellowstone Park. The back of the photograph is marked as follows: 19916 - Angel Terrace. The photograph shows the raised watermark in the bottom right hand corner of the photograph. The condition of this photograph is well preserved with portions of the frame showing wear to the lip of the border and the back held together with tape. The measurements of this framed photograph is 18 5/8" x 23 5/8" and the visible photograph is 16 3/4" x 2 5/8".

This is the first edition of this particular Haynes set.Each has a sight size measures 4.75 x 8 with an overall size of 9 x 12 inches.Very good original untouched condition, noting a single blue check mark to each listing pasted verso.. There are no issues of mildew, major scratches, lifting, stain, fade, loss, repair, or touch-up. Some mounts display toning at the extreme edge and the case displays wear at some corners and edges. Very good condition overall and odor free.Provenance: The collection of Josephine Bird Hall (1888 - 1948) by descent to her son, the present owner. Josephine's father was a founder of Kansas City's Emery, Bird, Thayer Department Store.

Buffalo Bill at the Irma Hotel Cody Wyoming Photographs Lot of 4 photographs including: a silver gelatin photograph of Bar Room Irma Hotel Cody Trail to Yellowstone Park showing Cody and a few other men enjoying drinks and cigars at the bar mounted to 8.5 x 10.5 in. with inked title in the margin of the print; a photograph of Buffalo Bill shaking hands with the driver of a car on the streets of his eponymous town with credit to photographer F.J. Hiscock at l.r. and penciled title on verso A steam automobile (a Stanley to be precise) 7.75 x 9.5 in. unmounted; a similar photograph taken from the same vantage point and showing the same car though with Cody wearing a different outfit; and a 5 x 7 in. unmounted photograph of a group of men (not including Cody) on the porch of the Pahaska Teepe / Buffalo Bill's Hunting-Lodge In The Rockies In The Heart Off Big Game Country. The photograph credited to Hiscock is identified elsewhere as being taken by Jack Richard outside the Irma Hotel in October 1913. The man Cody is shaking hands with is Charles G. ''Spend-A-Million'' Gates an extravagant Wall Street trader who traveled to Cody for five weeks of big game hunting with his entourage. Mr. Gates arrived just after the departure of Prince Albert I of Monaco who had hired Buffalo Bill as his personal hunting guide yet made the townspeople forget about their royal guest by showering the town with wealth via gift purchases church and civic donations and exorbitant tips to all who helped serve him. The photo offered here was taken as the group was preparing to return to New York however Gates fell seriously ill and died in his private rail car at the Cody depot just hours later. Descended in the Family of a Member of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Cowboy Band Condition: First with a few scattered yellow stains else very good. Second with creasing in upper left corner. Third with creasing at lower left and lower right and yellow stains and warping in the left third. Last with staining and warping throughout.
