ROBERT BANCKS, LONDON STICK BAROMETER Early 19th c. English Mahogany Barometer, by Robert Bancks, 440 Strand, London (operated at this address from 1795-1804). Banks was instrument maker and optician to the Prince of Wales (later George IV). Barometer has a split pediment top with brass finial, brass plaque with engraved maker's name and scales, mounted thermometer and mercury tube, wood cased cistern at base, 39 1/2" high, 6 1/4" wide. Surface wear.

CONDITION: Small loss at upper left trim, wear consistent with age and use. CONTAINS MERCURY AND CANNOT BE SHIPPED.
