From backgrounds in race-horse breeding and championship cattle ranching, the socialite couple paid homage to the St. Louis area community in a variety of ways.
Mr. Wallace served as Director of Commerce Bank, President of the St. Louis Zoo Friends Board, and was charitable to numerous organizations he believed in. Behind every great man is a better woman, and his wife Lee was renowned for being the glue of the family while she warmly served as Director of Development for local educational institutions and made an impact with her lasting spirit. The couple’s art collection ranges in style and period and spans a broad price-point.

COLLECTION OF TWELVE WOOD
COLLECTION OF TWELVE WOOD CARVINGS BY JULIUS RANDOLPH DOERING 20TH CENTURY HEIGHTS FROM 2” TO 16”.COLLECTION OF TWELVE WOOD CARVINGS BY JULIUS RANDOLPH DOERING, 20th Century, A double eagle, a bust of a Native American, two horses, two boots, a young cowboy, an old man holding a broom, a pig, a bowl, an eagle and a cowboy riding a horse. Dimensions: Heights from 2" to 16". Provenance: Notes:Julius Randolph Doering was born in 1914 in Goodrich, North Dakota. Starting in his early teens, he developed a life-long interest in woodworking. While he was self-taught, he read widely on the subjects of furniture construction and carving, or whittling, as he called it. After he moved to Rochester, Minnesota in 1955 he set up a complete woodworking shop in his basement, where he made dolls, toys and other household goods and taught his four daughters how to distinguish different kinds of wood by their smell. After his retirement he moved to San Diego and began carving in earnest, including decoys, figural sculptures, platters and other items. Notably, he glued different colored woods into one solid block so that when the piece was turned on the lathe, it would have three distinctive colors. His work is usually dated and signed "by Julius" or with some combination of his initials JRD.
