PIERRE AUGUSTE RENOIR (FRANCE,
PIERRE AUGUSTE RENOIR (FRANCE, 1841-1919) Girl with Flowers, in Landscape near Cagnes-sur-Mer, oil on canvas, ca. 1890, signed lower right, in what appears to be the original Impressionist matched corner frame with partial French branding mark, OS: 19 1/2" x 16 1/2", SS: 13 1/4" x 10 1/4".
Kaliski Galleries, NY, 1952; Property of New York and Edinburgh Physician; Private Collection, ME, by descent from the above.
This landscape with seated girl may be Cagnes-asur Mer, where Renoir moved towards the end of his life, living there from 1908 to 1919, when he died there. In fragile health and suffering from such a debilitating arthritism it required him changing his painting technique. He continued to paint prolifically at Cagnes, having his paint brushes tied to his wrist when needed.
