[Autographs and Manuscripts]
[Autographs and Manuscripts] Group of NY Supreme Court Documents from the Early 19th Century Lot of approx. 60 documents; 4 dated 1818 26 dated 1828 and 30 dated 1831. In the New York State court system the Supreme Court is the highest trial court with a Supreme Court in each county. These documents are from different courts - Schnectady Albany Orange Genesee NYC etc. In most states and the federal system ''supreme court'' is used to refer to the highest court in the system; in New York however the highest court is the Court of Appeals. This is an historical hold-over from the English court system and New York claims the oldest (continuous) court in the New World being established in 1691. These documents cover many different civil cases.
