Ascanius turns back to glimpse the burning city of Troy while Anchises holds steadfastly to the vessel with his ancestors' ashes. A draped lion skin represents the family's ties to Aphrodite. Stamped "F. Barbedienne Fondeur" along the base of the pillar. Further stamped "Reduction Mecanique A. Collas Brevete" along the base. Provenance: Unique Shoppe, Seattle, Washington, 1969; Private Minnesota Collection. Height: 25 1/2 in x width: 11 in x depth: 12 in. Condition: The sculpture is in good condition.
