A Large Figure of Mary The figure of Mary is set on a large polychromed pedestal base. The figure has as thick gesso layer on the exposed areas and is realistically painted. She has glass eyes, sewn hair wig with billowing curls, and a linen under skirt and brocaded dress and train with stars woven into the textile. Overall approx. 24-1/2"H. Arms articulated at the shoulder.

FLEMISH/SOUTHERN GERMANY CARVED WOODEN BUST Portrait of Mary Magdelene, depicted as a young woman with long strands of curling hair falling to her waist over the hair shirt celice she is wearing, her face having honest, open expression, her hands missing. In remnants of polychrome paint and gilding, with the reverse hollowed out, roughly 17 1/2" x 13" x 9", repairs, wormage. Fine age patina. Notes from family indicate this was purchased in the 1970's in London from Thomas Sneyd for the equivalent of $8,000.
