TRADE BEADS AND SILVER GORGET2 Fur Trade collectible items. 1st item: Silver trading gorget engraved with turtle and tree of life pattern, unsigned, with strand of red white-heart beads. 3-1/2" x 2-5/8" gorget, 24" L beads. Possibly early 19th century. 2nd item: strand of green white-heart trade beads, 24"L, with 5 beads forming a pendant drop. Tag accompanying the second group of beads states that they were found near the old French Fort and trading post Prairie Du Rocher, Illinois, on the Mississippi River. 19th century or earlier.
Condition:
Stringing likely not original, wear and some cracking to beads.

ATTR. HARVEY JOINER OIL WITH 2 TREESAttrib. Harvey Joiner (Kentucky/Indiana,1852-1932) oil on canvas-wrapped board, landscape depicting two trees in a forest, one bathed in sunlight, the other in shadows. Ornate giltwood molded frame with brass nameplate, housed inside a black shadowbox frame. Board 8" x 6", giltwood frame 15" x 13", shadowbox frame 14-1/2" x 16-1/2". Provenance: Kentucky collection. Biography (courtesy Who Was Who In American Art): A painter, Harvey Joiner did portraits including the first five governors of Indiana and also worked in St. Louis where it is thought he studied with David Hoffman. At age 16, he began sketching scenes of African-Americans on the Mississippi River Boats, and by 1880, he had established a studio in Louisville, Kentucky and specialized in scenes of Kentucky beech woods. He also painted allegorical subjects.
Condition:
Canvas laid down on board, small losses and hairlines to gilt frame and small minor abrasions to shadowbox.

Original burnished molded frame with gilted wood mat and nameplate. 13-1/2" x 5-1/2" sight, 21" x 13" framed. He is best known for his scenes of Kentucky beech woods, although he also painted allegorical subjects and portraits, including portraits of the first five governors of Indiana. GRUBER PAINTING & C...Two (2) Southern rural American scenes. 1st item: William Gruber oil on canvas painting titled "On the Old Mississippi" depicting two figures watching from the bank as a large white riverboat named the "Golden Eagle" passes by. They stand beneath the foliage of a weeping willow tree and under a cloudy blue sky. Signed "By Wm Gruber" lower right. Housed in a contemporary wood frame with foliate decoration. Sight: 19 3/4" H x 15 1/2" W. Framed: 24 1/4" H x 20 1/2" W. Note: Built in 1904, the Golden Eagle was a well-known riverboat that made national news when it sank on May 18, 1947. The vessel operated in packet trades on the Mississippi and Illinois rivers before becoming a tourist steamer. Source: Norrington, Keith; The Str. Fernsell hand-colored block print titled "Haying" depicting several African Americans with a horse team working in a field, with the sun rising or setting in the background. Signed and dated "C. Fernsell, 1952". Titled lower center. Housed in an ebonized wood frame with foliate decoration under glass. Sight: 7 3/4" H x 11" W. Both items 20th century.

1st item: Light grime and slight waviness to canvas. 2nd item: Overall very good condition.
