Note: Known as the first Japanese printed map of the world from a Buddhist perspective the present lot represents the rare fusion of Japanese and European cartography. CONSTANTIN BOYM "PEOPLE OF THE WORLD" GLOBECube globe painted with faces from different parts of the world; signed and dated 2008 to bottom by artist; measures approximately 20" tall and 8" in diameter to base; each square measures approximately 10" square; in Good overall condition. Constantin Boym was born in Moscow, Russia in 1955, where he graduated from Moscow Architectural Institute. In 1984-85 he earned a Master's degree in Design from Domus Academy in Milan. He became a U.S. registered architect in 1988. In 1986 he founded Boym Partners Inc in New York City. His studio's designs include tableware for Alessi and Authentics, watches for Swatch, lighting for Flos, showrooms and retail displays for Vitra, and exhibition installations for many American museums, including Museum of the City of New York and Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. Objects designed by Boym Partners are included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

MAP OF THE WORLD BY CLAES JANSZOON VISSCHER (NETHERLANDS 1587-1652). Nova Totius Terrarum Orbis Geographica Ac Hydrographica Tabula engraving on laid paper Amsterdam: N.I. Piscator 1652. Central map of the world surrounded by vignettes depicting Roman emperors and cultural groups with four continents represented at the corners. Originally published in 1639 this edition is dated 1652. Imperfections. 20.25''h. 25.5''w. (sheet) in a later frame 25.75''h. 29.75''w. Among the best cartographers of his age Visscher often signed his works ''N.I. Piscator '' which is essentially a Latinization of his last name--both Visscher and Piscator roughly translate to fisherman. Overall toning a few minor holes and 7 small tape patches visible on verso; the page break was taped but the tape has been removed from one side. The outer 1/4'' of the margins is taped to the mat but at least 1'' of margin outside the platemark survives.
